Equipment
Johnny's only equipment that he regularly uses is his costume, which is constructed from unstable molecules so it doesn't interfere with (or is affected by) his powers. He is often seen driving around town in his latest hot-rod.

Typical Quote: "I've had enough of this domestic bliss bit! Hanging around here is like being on the set of 'Ozzie and Harriet'!"

Johnny Storm is the prototypical super-powered teenager: he digs action, chicks, and fast cars, and no one will take him seriously because of his age (except other teenagers).  This often leads him into conflict with the other members of the Fantastic Four because he gets tired of them treating him "like a kid" all the time.

HISTORY

Although his mother died in an automobile accident when he was 9, Johnny Storm has always been a daredevil -- a hothead -- having developed a special interest in cars at an early age. Johnny passed much of his leisure time in the company of mechanics and enthusiasts, and learned to overhaul a transmission before he was 15. For his 16th birthday, Johnny's physician father bought him his first hot rod. But as exciting a gift as the muscle car was, it was a fateful trip to California to visit his older sister Sue that offered Johnny the opportunity to experience the ultimate thrill ride. Sue's fiancé Reed Richards had overseen the construction of an exploratory starship, but was in danger of losing funding. When the aeronautical engineer chose to make an immediate test flight with best friend Ben Grimm as pilot, Johnny and Sue insisted on accompanying as passengers.
Rather than the preeminent experience of Johnny's young life, the trip proved to be a disaster. In space, the starship unexpectedly encountered intense radiation, which mutagenically altered the bodies of all four crewmembers. Having acquired the ability to emit and envelop himself in fiery plasma, Johnny jumped at the promise of adventure when Reed suggested they use their unique powers for humanity's benefit.
While his star skyrocketed as a member of the Fantastic Four, Johnny returned to suburban Long Island to finish high school, hoping no one in the community would realize he was the Human Torch -- a fact that soon proved impossible to conceal. Upon graduation, Johnny moved to the team's Baxter Building headquarters in New York City. Like any other family, the members of the Fantastic Four have endured their share of hardships -- remaining together because of their love for one another, not out of necessity. The baby of the bunch, the Torch has demonstrated a talent for tormenting the Thing. Ben and Johnny may bicker like brothers, but each is extremely protective of the other.
